A second chance for a first education

The Stanley Thomas Johnson Foundation offers motivated adults from the Canton of Bern the opportunity to complete a basic vocational training programme.

To participate, interested persons must be at least 25 years old, have no basic vocational qualifications and insufficient financial means of their own to obtain these.

The full participation criteria and further information on the project can be found at www.2chance1ausbildung.ch.

Over 400'000 adults in Switzerland are affected

In Switzerland, over 400,000 people between the ages of 25 and 54 have no completed vocational training. Without any basic qualifications, it is very difficult to find a job on the Swiss labour market. We launched the project 2. Chance for a 1. Education to counteract the growing shortage of skilled labour in Switzerland and make a sustainable contribution to economic, social and socio-political development.

What is the impact of basic vocational qualifications?

Participants of the project 2. Chance for a 1. Education confirm that completing a vocational training programme has had a positive impact on their lives. But what other results does the adult education project achieve, and is it economically viable? The Büro für arbeits- und sozialpolitische Studien (BASS) has assessed the project’s impact in a final report.
